OUR
MINISTRIES
Baptism
Joy provides Holy Baptism for adults, youth, children, and infants. This is the sacrament that is once and forever, which adopts a person into God’s family.
Confirmation & First Communion
We provide instruction to students whose parents believe their child is ready (usually 4th or 5th grade) to receive Holy Communion for the first time. This a four-week course. The next step is for middle school and older to be instructed in the basics of the Christian faith after a two-year course when they can then affirm their baptism in the rite of Confirmation.
Visitation
We have people who visit our first-time guests, homebound, recuperating, or anyone who expresses a need. Our visiting disciples (also called Eucharistic Ministers) bring Holy Communion to people at home.
Prayer Chain
At Joy we believe in the power of prayer. We pray for each other, family, friends, and strangers. Whenever someone is in need, the email goes out and the Prayer Chain goes into action. We can pray for you too!
Women's Ministry
The Woman’s Ministry at Joy is multi-faceted. We have a dynamic Woman’s Bible Study and Prayer Shawl Knitting group. Both meet weekly. Our Women’s Ministry also includes feeding our community and supporting the Pregnancy Resource Center in Richmond.
Pastoral Support
Joy’s pastor, Randy Conley, is available for all kinds of spiritual and life situation visits, appointments, counseling, and ministry. He is eager to meet people new to Joy and helping them learn and grow in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Christmas Homeless Outreach
Joy Disciples are devoted to helping others, especially those in need. During the Christmas Season we gather items for Houston’s homeless population.
Then Christmas morning we take the gifts directly to the homeless. We talk with them and pray with them. This ministry is one of Joy’s most powerful outreach efforts, full of Christian love and giving.
Joy Life
Just walking into Joy Lutheran Church, you can see evidence of how we live our lives as Christians. We have family activities, community Fall Festivals, Easter Egg Hunts, and Vacation Bible School. We take care of each other as well as serve our community.
Music Ministry
Whether it’s traditional hymns with an organ and choir, or modern Christian songs with a five-piece Praise Band, we’ve got it! Joy believes music is a big part of worship. Anyone can join in!
Dunes Project
Yep, the dunes…as in the dunes at the beach. Each January we deposit used Christmas trees on nearby Gulf beaches to help the restore the dunes lost during tropical storms and hurricanes. Over the years, we’ve placed thousands of trees. Just one more way to be good stewards of God’s Earth.
